When calculated damages of health costs and insurance costs and lost productivity due to accident, illness, or premature death, financial loss for the community is really surprising. That said, as a result of alcohol abuse, domestic Ireland with a population of four million people suffered losses at least one billion dollars a year. A source quoted in The Irish Times said that the amount is worth the "price of a hospital, a sports stadium, and a new jet for every Minister per year".
